Margam Country Show, Margam Country Park, Port Talbot 24-25 August 2008
The Bridgend & District Air Rifle League attended the Margam Park Country show again this year, giving visitors the chance to try out the sport and compete for the highest daily scores.
A great 2 days for all. Despite the weather, many people of all ages came along to experience the sport and try out their skills.
Everyone who competed had 6 shots at a 155mm circular target (marked from a score of 1 to a maximum of 10 points for the 12mm bullseye), with the 5 highest scores being counted. Certificates were awarded for best total on each of the days for both Juniors (under 16s) and Seniors (16 and over). Seniors in general shot from a free-standing position (the plucky woman pictured above being one of very few exceptions!), the Juniors shot with the aid of a rest (again, we had a few plucky youngsters who shot from the free-standing position and still managed an excellent total of 46 points - well done Rhiannon and Amelia!).
24th August
Seniors - We had one outright winner with a maximum 50 points. Vicki had never fired an air rifle before but scored maximum points on her first try-out.
Juniors - There was a 5-way shoot-off at the end of the day each having scored 49 points. The shoot-off was still a 3-way tie after an initial 3 shot highest score round. The event was eventually won by Kyle after a shot for shot knockout round.
25th August
Seniors - There was a 6-way shoot-off for the Seniors (3 no-shows) each having scored 49 points, with Nathan winning the 3 shot highest score round.
Juniors - There was a 2-way shoot-off for the Juniors each having scored a maximum 50 points, with Zeno winning the 3 shot highest score round.
The League gets together to celebrate the Centenary year and award the trophies for 2007/2008
