Competitions
There are 4 types of competitions where members compete throughout the year:
1: LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS
W. Phillips League
Modern scoring League Championship for teams of 7, 8, 9 or 10 with the
highest 7 scores to count for each team. Every League Club to shoot
against every other on a home and away basis.
The Winning team receives the returnable W. Phillips
Cup. Individual commemorative trophies are provided
by the League, for up to 13 registered members of the winning team.
Runners Up receive the returnable Major Gaskell
Shield. Individual commemorative trophies are not
provided by the League.
The team finishing in bottom position receive the returnable Wooden
Spoon, individual commemorative trophies are not
provided by the League.
Colonel Stockwood League
Conventional scoring League Championship for teams of 6, nominated
prior to shooting, concurrent with the ‘A’ League Championship. Every
League Club to shoot against every other on a home and away basis.
The Winning team receives the returnable Colonel
Stockwood Cup. Individual commemorative trophies
are provided by the League, for up to 13 registered members of the
winning team.
Runners Up receive the returnable H. P. Williams
Shield. Individual commemorative trophies are not
provided by the League.
The team finishing in bottom position receive the returnable Wooden
Fork, individual commemorative trophies are not
provided by the League.
Singer League
Conventional scoring League Championship for teams of 7, 8, 9 or 10
with the highest 7 scores to count for each team. Every League Club to
shoot against every other on a home and away basis.
The Winning team receives the returnable Singer Cup.
Individual commemorative trophies are provided by the League, for up to
13 registered members of the winning team.
Runners Up receive the returnable W.J. Thomas Cup.
Individual commemorative trophies are not provided by the League.
D.J. Perring League
Conventional scoring League Championship for teams of 7, 8, 9 or 10
with individual handicap scoring, the best 7 scores after handicap has
been added to count for each team, one team per eligible club.
The Winning team receives the returnable D.J.
Perring Rose Bowl. Individual commemorative
trophies are provided by the League, for up to 13 registered members of
the winning team only.
Runners Up receive the returnable W.E. John Cup.
Individual commemorative trophies are not provided by the League.
2: TEAM CHALLENGE CUPS
S. Simmonds Cup
6 aside Team Challenge Cup event with conventional scoring. The Winning
team receives the returnable S. Simmonds Cup.
Nigel Phillips Cup
8 Aside Team Challenge Cup event with conventional scoring. The Winning
team receives the returnable Nigel Phillips Cup.
J.E. Williams Cup
6 aside Team Challenge Cup event with pip scoring. The Winning team
receives the returnable J.E. Williams Cup.
York Hotel Cup
8 aside Team Challenge Cup event with conventional scoring. The Winning
team receives the returnable York Hotel Cup.
BEHA Cup
7, 8 or 9 aside Team Challenge Cup event with conventional scoring. The
team with the best aggregate score from 7 competitors receives the
returnable BEHA Cup.
3: PAIRS & FOURS COMPETITIONS
Western Mail Pairs
Nominated fixed teams of 2 with conventional scoring. The Winning team
receives the returnable Western Mail Shield.
Bertorelli Pip Pairs
Nominated fixed teams of 2 with pip scoring. The Winning team receives
the returnable Frank Bertorelli Cup.
Lord Swansea Pairs
Nominated fixed teams of 2 with conventional scoring plus individual
handicap scoring. The Winning team receives the returnable Lord
Swansea Cup. Two individual commemorative trophies
are provided by the League for both winners and beaten finalists.
Edgar Williams Fours
Nominated fixed teams of 4, 5 or 6 with conventional scoring. Any 4
from the nominated squad of 6 may shoot at any stage of the
competition. The Winning team receives the returnable Edgar
Williams Cup. Individual commemorative trophies are
provided by the League for all team squad members of both winners and
beaten finalists.
4: INDIVIDUAL COMPETITIONS
"A" Class Cup
Individual event open to all registered members having an individual
average score in ‘A’ League matches of 34 and more, or whose average is
unknown, at the appropriate date. The Winner receives the returnable A
Class Trophy. Individual trophies for winners and
runners up are provided by the League.
"B" Class Cup
Individual event open to all registered members having an individual
average score in ‘A’ League matches of more than 33 and less than 34,
at the appropriate date. The Winner receives the returnable B
Class Trophy. Individual trophies for winners and
runners up are provided by the League.
"C" Class Cup
Individual event open to all registered members having an individual
average score in ‘A’ League matches of more than 32 and less than 33,
at the appropriate date. The Winner receives the returnable D.L.
Powell Cup. Individual trophies for winners and
runners up are provided by the League.
Individual event open to all registered members having an individual average score in ‘A’ League matches of less than 32, at the appropriate date. The winner receives the returnable D Cup. Individual trophies for winners and runners up are provided by the League.
Christopher Wools Cup
Individual event shot concurrent with the A, B, and C Cup competitions open to all registered members aged under 18 on the first of September immediately preceding the event. The Winner receives the returnable Christopher Wools Cup, and a commemorative trophy is provided by the league.
Ray Lewis Cup
Individual Knockout Tournament open to the highest average score in ‘A’
League and Team Cup matches in each club. By arrangement the second
highest average scorer will be accepted. All entrants must have
attained their averages by shooting in at least 75% of available
matches. Competitors must be present on the appointed range by the
appointed time and remain available throughout the event, non handicap
event with pip scoring. No pre-match practice permitted on appointed
range. At each stage competitors shall have a choice of 1 or 2 sighters
followed by 7 shots to count. Tied matches to be decided by each
competitor firing 1 sighter and 3 shots to count, then if scores are
still tied, shot for shot. Neutral scorers at all stages. The Winner
receives the returnable Ray Lewis Cup
Individual trophies for winner and runner up are provided by the
League.
Robert Thomas Cup
Individual Knockout Tournament open to any person who has attained a
score of 35.4 and above, in any of the competitions. If there is a club
that has no member with a score of 35.4 then the member or members (
two or more members having attained the same highest score) will be
allowed to enter. Competitors must be present on the appointed range by
the appointed time and remain available throughout the event, non
handicap event with conventional scoring. No pre-match practice
permitted on appointed range. At each stage competitors shall have a
choice of 1 or 2 sighters followed by 7 shots to count. Tied matches to
be decided by each competitor firing 1 sighter and 3 shots to count,
then if scores are still tied, shot for shot. Neutral scorers at all
stages. The Winner receives the returnable Robert
Thomas Memorial Cup Individual trophies for winner
and runner up are provided by the League.
OTHER AWARDS
Highest League Average
An award made annually to the registered member who has the highest
average score in matches in the ‘A’ League. The Winner receives the
returnable Martyn Daley Cup.
Individual commemorative trophies for the winner and runner up are
provided by the League.
Highest Ladies Average
An award made annually to the registered female member who has the
highest average score in matches in the ‘A’ League. The Winner receives
the returnable Sandra Sanders Memorial Cup.
Individual commemorative trophies for the winner and runner up are
provided by the League.
Highest Senior Average Over 55
Highest League Average 34.5 and Up
Highest League Average 33.5/34.499
Highest League Average 32.5/33.499
Highest League Average Under 32.5
Highest League Average Junior (under 18)
Most Overall Possibles
An award made annually to the registered member who has attained the
highest number of “Possibles” (35/35) expressed as a percentage of all
official team matches including Singer League matches where modern
scoring applies (Pip scoring & Presidents League not included).
The Winner receives the returnable Basil George Cup,
a commemorative trophy for the Winner is provided by the League.
Most League Possibles
An award made annually to the registered member who has attained the
highest number of “Possibles” (35/35) in matches in the ‘A’ League and
Singer League. There is no returnable trophy. A commemorative trophy
for the Winner is provided by the League.
Maximum Score Shield 35.7
An award given to a member who attains the highest maximum score (35.7)
in a league organised competition shot under BADARL rules. The shield
is kept by that member until the score is attained by another member,
when the shield will be passed on. A commemorative trophy for the
Winner is provided by the League.
Committee Cup
An award made annually to the team which, in the opinion of the
Executive Committee was the most progressive, or in the case of an
individual for services, etc. to the League during the season under
consideration. The successful team or individual receives the
returnable Committee Cup, no
commemorative trophy is provided by the League. In any season the
Executive Committee may decide not to award the cup.
